Kauai is the 4th largest, oldest, and most northern island of the State of Hawaii. The island is nearly circular in shape, and is approximately 553 square miles in size. Its lush, tropical interior with stunning waterfalls is surrounded by miles of white sand beaches and, along its northwestern edge, the magnificant and forbidding Na Pali Coast.

Kauai is known as the Garden Island due to the abundance and variety of flowers found there. Its Mount Waialeale is known as the wettest spot on the planet (over 400 inches of rain annually) and Waimea Canyon is frequently called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. Like all of Hawaii, there are only two seasons on Kauai: summer (May through October) where the air and water temperatures average in the 80s and Winter (November through April) where the air and water temperatures average in the 70s. There is no rainy season in Kauai, though there is generally more rainfall during the winter.

Lihue, the largest city on the island, is also the location of the main airport. There are frequent flights to other islands of Hawaii as well as to the US mainland. Most of the interior of Kauai is uninhabited.

Due to its magnificant scenery, Kauai is a favorite of film production companies. Jurassic Park, South Pacific, Raiders of the Lost Ark, King Kong, and many others were filmed there.
